Museum "Vajont Attimi di Storia"
This museum, inaugurated in 2009, was created in memory of the Vajont tragedy that struck the town of Longarone and the surrounding villages on October 9th 1963, causing about 2.000 deaths.A terrible catastrophe is remembered here with an interesting exhibition inside the Cultural Centre of Longarone. The exhibition is a review of photographs and historical documents that describe the story of the Vajont Dam, from its construction to the detachment of the rock from Mount Toc that caused a tragic wave hitting the town of Longarone on October 9, 1963.The museum itinerary has been created by assembling a series of twisted vertical elements, precisely 1910 (the number of victims found after the tragedy) arranged inside the room and acting as a guide in the exhibition itinerary.In these original walls, there are numerous photographs and some objects that bear witness to the event, in chronological order.The visitor is introduced to the exhibition by the famous model of the dam, made by the Ismes studio of Bergamo and on which the tests were made, accompanied by a gigantography that shows the desolate landscape the day after the disaster. The exhibition then continues chronologically: from the narration of the life of the population of Longarone in the years before the terrible wave, to the numerous geological studies that were carried out by engineers and planners, ending with a description of the tragedy.This is the most touching part of the exhibition in which, through photographs and the few objects ruined by water and mud, it is possible to understand the disaster. A beautiful example of commemoration, not to forget the victims, whose names are listed in alphabetical order at the end of the exhibition.
Chiesa di Santa Maria Immacolata
Following the Vajont disaster (1963), the village of Longarone was swept away by a wave of mud, earth and water caused by a landslide detached from the northern slope of Mount Toc.In October 1966 Giovanni Michelucci was commissioned to design the new church of the village. However, Michelucci's appointment found firm opposition from the parish priest and part of the community; the controversies were soon exploited also at a political level (the famous journalist Indro Montanelli, for example, intervened against its realization), and only in 1975, with the definitive consent of the bishop of Belluno and Feltre, it was possible to start the works.The church was consecrated in October 1983.
Ponte di Igne
The bold red structure suspended 125 meters above the Maè stream was built in 1973 in memory of the local cableway operators. Starting from the 19th century, the cableway operators of Igne and Soffranco became nationally known for their technical ability and ingenuity with which, using ropes, pulleys, and trestles, they were able to transport wood from the most inaccessible places to the valley. The present crossing is the result of the adaptation and integration of the temporary bridge that was built in Malcolm after the Vajont disaster to connect the right bank of the Piave river with the village of Codissago. The footbridge replaced an ancient stone structure (Pont de Spigol, destroyed in the 1966 flood) which, placed not far away, allowed to connect the opposite sides of the Gola del Maè.
Poffabro
Poffabro is the name of a village in the municipality of Frisanco in the province of Pordenone, which already has a small history in its name. It actually originates from Latin, some say from Pratum Fabri (blacksmiths' lawn), others from Post Fabri (after blacksmiths). It is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and is easily accessible from Maniago, the city of knives, which is the reason of the blacksmith part of its name, in fact the road that connects the two towns was once dotted with a many blacksmith shops, now disappeared or moved to the nearby industrial area.The peculiarity of this village placed on the mountain is the fascinating architecture of its houses built with the materials of the local area, i.e. stone and wood, which has remained unchanged or almost since the fifteenth century. Walking through its narrow stone-paved alleys, you can enjoy the narrow, three-storey houses leaning against each other, with wooden balconies and stone arches fused in a magical architectural amalgam creating a peaceful sense of profound natural harmony.
Maniago
The town of Maniago, which donated in 1971 the area where the town of Vajont is built, is known for the art of making knives, which gives it the name of the city of the knife: there are many knife factories, handcrafted, from medieval times. The work of knife artisans in Maniago who supplied the Republic of Venice with armaments is documented since the fifteenth century.You will find many monuments and traces of the influence of Venice in the history of Maniago, a small but important town situated at the entrance of two valleys, Valcellina and Valcolvera.

The Coricama, which once was the largest knife factory in Maniago, is now home to the Museo dell'Arte Fabbrile e delle Coltellerie (museum of the knife-making art), one of the most important symbols of Maniago's centuries-long artisanal history.It hosts an itinerary that describes the techniques of working with iron for the manufacture of cutting tools over the centuries. In addition you can appreciate an important selection of artefacts created in Maniago both in ancient times and today.

Sorgente del Gorgazzo
The fountain of Gorgazzo, whose clear and icy waters are of a splendid shade of blue, is a cave that originates the stream of the same name, a tributary of the Livenza river, located in the fraction Gorgazzo di Polcenigo (one of the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy).It has a flow rate of three cubic meters per second and is estimated to be the deepest water source in Italy, its maximum depth measured so far is 222 meters. The fascinating surroundings of the spring provide a quiet and relaxing promenade where you can enjoy, on very sunny days, the sight of the statue of Christ placed at the beginning of the cavern, at a depth of nine meters.

Diga del Vajont
